Spinnaker, a type of sail designed specifically for sailing off the wind from a reaching course to downwind, (off the bow). A purported etymology has the first boat to carry this sail named Sphinx, from which “Sphinx’s Acre” and eventually “Spinnaker” evolved. Often called a kite, or chute, the spinnaker somewhat resembles a parachute as it fills with wind and balloons out in front of the boat when it is deployed. This New Orleans fashion editorial for The Quarterly highlights a photographer’s ability to create characters in an unwritten story, that can change like the wind, depending on how you interpret the style of the images and interactions between models.
